Be good and do good.

Hey, my name is Kenny Embry and I want to introduce myself and Balancing the Christian Life podcast.

I’m a communication professor and a Christian. I’ve been teaching for almost 20 years and a Christian for about 35 years. I’m married, I have four children and I live a hectic suburban life in the Tampa Bay area

In Balancing the Christian Life, I’m interested in talking about my passions for practical Christianity. Christianity and Communication are both intentionally relational. In other words, to be a good Christian or a good communicator, you have to be talking, listening and relating. And that’s what I want to do here.

Part of my passion is figuring out what it means to become a stronger Christian. I’ve been looking at this idea for almost five years now and for the first few episodes I just want to talk with you about what that looks like. If you’re anything like me, you know people who are older whom you really admire. You want to live their example. And then there are those you don’t. You like them, but when I say a mature Christian, this isn’t the person you think about. So, I want to talk about that difference and how you can practically become someone God recognizes as His.

A second passion I have is talking to people who have a good story in how they do Christianity. I want to talk to people who are making Christianity work. Some of these are friends, some are family and some are people I want to know better.

A third passion is examining the digital Christian. Specifically I want to see how Christians use online tools to get better. I know, it’s far too easy to point to your smartphone and say that’s bad. We spend too much time on Instagram looking at fake lives, or blogs are a waste of time or we’re killing brain cells when we use Netflix. Let me go ahead and plant my flag and say while some of our time online is destructive or wasted, for a growing number of thoughtful Christians, online Christianity is amazing and help us live God’s word in ways simply impossible before now. I am a cheerleader and I want to thoughtfully use the tools God has given us to do Christianity better.

So let me tell you what I’m planning to do with the podcast. For the first few episodes, I want to talk about the seven things I think it takes to mature as a Christian. That’s going to be just you and me talking.

After that, I want to talk to some of the best people about how they make Christianity work. I’ve already interviewed my dad, and a close friend who’s written a couple books on work/life balance.

And then, I want to talk with you guys. I want to know what you do to be better Christians. My niche is the digital Christian, but I really want to get to know you. In my opinion, simple questions often have important answers.

I’ve got a website, balancingthechristianlife.com and I’ll put my best resources there and a sign up for a newsletter to let you know when a new episode is available or if I have something on my mind.

So if that sounds interesting to you, please subscribe where you get your podcasts. And until next time, let’s be good and do good.
